Pre-Conference Work Week
Up to General Topics
At IDEC 2007 in Brazil a few people had the idea that it would be
great to have a Work-week before the week of the IDEC. It would be a
week where people would arrive early to work in some way, in lieu of
paying conference fees in full or part. What this work might be is up
in the air. How this could work in a country like canada I'm not sure
either. My only thought so far is to volunteer the labour to a
(preferable organic) farm in exchange for food that could then be eaten
at the IDEC to lower our production costs.

Documentation 'fly on the wall style'. I have some experience of how this works.
TV networks like 'fly on the wall' documentaries. So do the public for a change.
The 'work-week' as such a documentary would provide a good platform to explain the conference, aims history et al, while at the same time following the ups and downs of setting it up.
Plenty of scope for bloopers, very popular eye candy, and a serious side of course!
The idea would be to keep the work-week as part 1, making a cliff hanger for the conference week, being part 2.
There's plenty of time to a) put the equipment needed together and b) approach network syndicates with the concept with a view to taking an option dependent on the unedited material.
I cannot imagine the material being anything other than entertaining and informative, always a good combination. So eventually payment for the footage would be forthcoming. I would hesitate to put a figure on it, but whatever it would be, it would be worth it. The publicity for IDEC generally would of course be good, and it would greatly enhance to sponsorship and support possibilities for IDEC2008. Nothing like being on the t.v. as 'editorial' to make marketing managers smile. I think in terms also of getting sponsored travel for the 'no budget' fans.
I could elaborate on the theme if invited!
I haven't seen anyone post any interest in the work-week so far. Without interest, it's certainly last on my priority list.
I do love your idea though. It would be great to have some TV coverage. I will that we had a few of your clones here in Vancouver to take these projects on.
Any chance you have some mad scientist friends at hand?
